Viega Brass Reducer 1" x 1 1/4", 31 mm, Female x Male Thread, Art. 266462

Female means the thread is inside the part, male means it runs around the outside. On this 1" x 1 1/4" reducer the larger end is male: its R 1 1/4 thread screws into a 1 1/4" female fitting or valve. The smaller end is female: the Rp 1 thread takes a pipe or nipple with a 1" male thread.

Both threads follow DIN EN 10226-1: R 1 1/4 is a tapered male thread and Rp 1 a parallel female thread. Such a joint seals in the thread itself and, unlike a G thread, needs no flat gasket. Viega permits only hemp with sealing paste, PTFE tape or thread-sealing cord, and the paste must be non-hardening and DVGW-marked.

Viega names three copper alloys for model 3241: gunmetal (Rotguss), silicon bronze or a copper-silicon alloy, so the specification lists brass and bronze instead of a single metal. Whichever alloy it is, Viega asks for these threaded fittings to be protected from high chloride concentrations, both from the medium in the pipe and from outside.
