Any two parts with a 1 1/2" female thread, such as a valve, a coupling, a tee or an elbow. Because the R 1 1/2 male thread at each end screws into a female port, the two parts end up right next to each other, separated only by the polygonal centre of the 52 mm nipple.

Viega gives a spanner size of 50 mm for the polygonal centre of this double nipple, so use a spanner of that size when tightening it. Seal both threads beforehand with one of the materials Viega permits: hemp with sealing paste, PTFE thread-sealing tape or thread-sealing cord.

Yes. Viega approves these threaded connectors for both, and Art. 269111 is listed on DVGW certificate DV-7401AO2957 for products of gas and water supply, whose test basis includes DIN EN 1254-4. Viega also asks for the fittings to be protected from high chloride concentrations and requires the installer to carry out a leak test before commissioning.
