Description

Viega cap 1″ (model 3301, Art. 268367) is meant for the end of a 1″ threaded line that has to stay closed for now, such as a branch prepared for a later connection. Its Rp 1 female thread fits over the male-threaded end; for a female opening, a plug would be the right choice.

Made of brass, the cap measures 29 mm overall, and its polygonal outer shape takes a 38 mm spanner. The parallel Rp thread to EN 10226-1 pairs with a tapered R male thread, and sealant in the thread makes the joint tight.

The specification names drinking water, heating and gas, and Art. 268367 is on the article list of DVGW certificate DV-7401AO2957. What do female and male thread mean, and which one does my pipe need?

Female threads are on the inside of a part, male threads on the outside. This 1" cap is female, with an Rp 1 thread, so it closes a pipe, nipple or valve end that finishes in a 1" male thread. A female outlet calls for a male-threaded plug instead.

Which sealant should I use with this cap?

Viega's instructions allow only hemp with sealing paste, PTFE thread-sealing tape or thread-sealing cord on these threaded joints. With a cap, the sealant goes onto the male thread of the end being closed, before the cap is screwed on. None of these materials comes with Art. 268367.

Can this cap be used in heating and gas systems?

Yes. According to Viega's instructions, these threaded connectors suit heating water and gases as well as drinking water. Art. 268367 is listed on DVGW certificate DV-7401AO2957, and Viega approves the range for gas installations to DVGW-TRGI 2018, observing the notes on each model.
