Description

Viega threaded cap 1/2″ (model 3301, Art. 266660) closes off the male-threaded end of a pipe, nipple or fitting. Its Rp 1/2 female thread screws over that end, the opposite of a plug, which goes into a female outlet. This way you can close a line that you will extend later.

The cap is brass, 20 mm long overall, and its polygonal body takes a 24 mm spanner. The parallel Rp thread follows EN 10226-1 and is designed for a tapered R male thread, with the seal formed in the thread itself. For that seal Viega permits hemp with sealing paste, PTFE thread tape or thread-sealing cord.

It is suitable for drinking-water, heating and gas installations, and Art. 266660 is listed on DVGW certificate DV-7401AO2957. What do female and male thread mean, and which one does my pipe need?

A female thread is cut inside a part, a male thread on its outside. This cap has an Rp 1/2 female thread, so it screws onto the end of a pipe, nipple or fitting with a 1/2" male thread. To close a female outlet instead, such as an unused branch of a tee, you need a plug with a male thread.

What spanner size do I need to tighten this cap?

Viega's dimension table lists a spanner size (SW) of 24 mm for Art. 266660, which fits the polygonal body of this 1/2" cap; the cap is 20 mm long overall. Apply the sealing material to the male thread of the pipe before you screw the cap on.

Can this cap be used on a gas line?

Yes. Art. 266660 is listed on DVGW type-examination certificate DV-7401AO2957, and Viega approves this range for gas installations to DVGW-TRGI 2018, subject to the notes on each model. Before the system is put into service, the installer has to carry out a load and leak test.
