A tee has three ends and takes one branch off the line. A cross adds a fourth end at the same point, so two branches leave in opposite directions at once. All four ends of this 1/2" cross have an Rp1/2 female thread, so you do not need two tees placed one after the other.

All four ends are Rp: parallel female threads to DIN EN 10226-1 that take tapered R male threads. Sealing happens in the thread itself, so the joint needs none of the flat gaskets that usually seal G-threaded joints. Viega permits hemp with sealing paste, PTFE thread tape or thread-sealing cord, and threaded joints may only use non-hardening sealants that carry the DVGW mark.
