Both press ends take Viega stainless steel system pipe with a 22 mm outside diameter, in grade 1.4401 or 1.4521, so the elbow joins two pipe lengths. If one side has to go straight into another fitting rather than a pipe, use the version with a plug-in end, model 2316.1.

Viega recommends its own press tools for Viega press connectors: a Viega Pressgun with the Viega press jaw that corresponds to Sanpress Inox in the 22 mm size. Mark the insertion depth on the pipe, push the elbow on up to the mark and press each end. Viega also asks for the tools to be serviced regularly by authorised partners.

SC-Contur is a design feature of Viega press connectors, not a standard: it makes sure that a joint someone forgot to press is not tight, so it shows up as a leak during the leak test. Viega states this for water test pressures from 1 to 6.5 bar and air test pressures from 22 mbar to 3 bar.
