Description

Viega Rotguss elbow 90° 3/4″ (model 3091, Art. 317980) turns a 3/4″ threaded line through a right angle where both neighbouring parts have female ports. Its two R3/4 male ends go straight into a coupling, a tee or a valve body, so no separate nipple is needed at the bend.

The elbow body is made of gunmetal (Rotguss grade). Both threads are tapered to DIN EN 10226-1 and knurled at the factory, so hemp holds on them without roughening. The range is approved for drinking water to DIN 1988 and for gas to DVGW-TRGI 2018, and the elbow also suits heating water.

Sealing material is not included. Protect the fitting from high chloride concentrations, both inside and outside. For a bend between two male-threaded ends, use the 3/4″ elbow with female threads at both ends, which fits the same line size. For the rest of the Viega selection, visit the Viega page of our site, which also carries the manufacturer’s press fitting systems.

Which thread standard is it (G, R or Rp), and how is the joint sealed?

Both ends carry an R3/4 thread: a tapered male thread to DIN EN 10226-1 that seals inside an Rp parallel female thread of the same size. A G-threaded joint usually needs a flat gasket for this; an R thread does not. Wrap the thread with hemp and sealing paste, PTFE thread tape or thread-sealing cord, and use only non-hardening sealants with the DVGW mark.

How does this elbow differ from a female-threaded elbow?

This 3/4" elbow has male threads at both ends, so it screws into female ports and takes the place of a separate nipple at the bend. A female-threaded elbow works the other way round: male-threaded pipes or nipples screw into it. The right choice depends on what the neighbouring parts end in.

What must be checked before the system is put into service?

Viega requires the installer to carry out a load and leak test before commissioning, on the completed installation while the pipework is still exposed. If one of this 3/4" elbow's R3/4 joints leaks during the test because of a damaged thread, replace the affected part and document the result.
