Viega Smartpress Press Wall-Plate Elbow 20 mm x 1/2", Brass, Press x Thread, Art. 729486

A female thread lines the inside of an opening, whereas a male thread sits on the outside of a part. This 20 mm x 1/2" wall-plate elbow has an Rp1/2 female thread, so a part with a 1/2" male thread screws into it, such as a nipple or the male end of a valve. The pipe goes into the other end, the 20 mm press connection.

For threaded joints, Viega's instructions allow only commercially available hemp with thread-sealing paste, or sealing tape certified for drinking water. Thread lockers containing solvents can damage plastic parts of the connection and cause leaks. Sealing material is not supplied with this 20 mm x 1/2" elbow.

SC-Contur is a feature of the contour of Viega press connectors: until pressed, the joint is not tight. If you forget to press the 20 mm end of this elbow, water or air escapes exactly where the coloured dot sits on the fitting. According to Viega, a dry test at 22 mbar–3 bar reveals it, and so does a wet test at 1–6.5 bar.
