Description

Viega elbow 90° 1″ (model 3092, Art. 264048) changes the direction of a 1″ threaded line directly at a valve or fitting outlet. Its R 1 male end screws into that female outlet without an extra nipple, and its Rp 1 female end takes the next male-threaded pipe.

The body is bronze, and both threads are made to EN 10226-1: Rp is parallel, R is tapered, and the joint seals in the thread. Viega knurls its R male threads at the factory, so hemp can be wound on without roughening.

The elbow suits drinking-water, heating and gas installations, and Art. 264048 is on the article list of DVGW certificate DV-7401AO2957. What do female and male thread mean, and which one does my pipe need?

A thread is cut either inside a part (female) or on its outer surface (male). This 1" elbow has one of each: the R 1 male end goes into a 1" female outlet, for example on a valve or tee, and the Rp 1 female end takes a pipe or nipple with a 1" male thread.

Which thread standard is it (G, R or Rp), and how is the joint sealed?

Both ends follow EN 10226-1. The Rp 1 end is a parallel female thread and the R 1 end a tapered male thread, and each seals in the thread itself, whereas a G joint is usually sealed by a gasket. For sealing, Viega names three options: hemp with paste, PTFE thread tape or thread-sealing cord.

Can this elbow be used on gas and heating lines?

Yes. Viega's instructions name heating water and gases, along with drinking water, as media for these threaded connectors, and Art. 264048 is listed on DVGW certificate DV-7401AO2957. Viega approves them for gas installations subject to the notes on each model, so read the notes for model 3092 before using it on gas.
