Description

Viega plug 1″ with an external rim (model 3290, Art. 320294) closes a female-threaded outlet that is not needed, such as the spare branch of a tee. The brass plug screws in with its R 1 male thread and is tightened with a spanner on its square head.

The R 1 thread is a tapered male thread to EN 10226-1. Viega knurls its R male threads at the factory, so hemp can be wound on without roughening them first. Sealing material is not included. Viega’s range also has a 1″ plug without the external rim, model 3291.

The plug is intended for drinking-water, heating and gas installations. Tees, nipples and other parts for screwed lines are in our range of fittings for threaded pipework, while the maker’s press systems are among the Viega products we carry. Before the installation goes into service, Viega requires a load and leak test.

What do female and male thread mean, and which one does my pipe need?

A female thread runs inside an opening, while a male thread is cut on the outside of a part. This 1" plug has a male thread, so it screws into a 1" female outlet, for example on a tee or a valve. If the end you need to close is a male-threaded pipe, choose a cap with a female thread instead.

Which thread standard is it (G, R or Rp), and how is the joint sealed?

The plug has an R thread to EN 10226-1: a tapered male thread that seals in the thread itself when it is screwed into a parallel Rp female thread, so unlike a G connection it needs no flat gasket. Viega permits hemp with sealing paste, PTFE thread tape or thread-sealing cord; lay the hemp in the thread roots, not on the crests.

What should I use to tighten this plug?

You need a spanner that fits the square head; for threaded connectors Viega names a pipe wrench or an open-ended spanner. Before fitting, check that the R 1 thread is undamaged, and while tightening, make sure that no hemp is pushed out of the thread.
