Description

Viega union connector 1 1/4″ (model 3335, Art. 320256) links a female-threaded outlet to a part with a G 1 1/4 male thread in a way that can be undone. The R 1 male tailpiece screws into the outlet, and the union nut with a G 1 1/4 female thread goes onto the mating male thread.

Viega produces this model in gunmetal, silicon bronze or a copper-silicon alloy and does not specify the alloy of a particular piece. On the nut side the joint seals flat on an aramid-fibre gasket supplied with the fitting, and the connector is 46 mm long overall. The R thread is tapered to EN 10226-1 and knurled at the factory, so hemp can be wound on without roughening it.

For its threaded connectors, Viega names drinking water, heating water, gases and compressed air as media. Thread sealant is not supplied with the fitting. Other threaded fittings in our range can be combined with this 1 1/4″ union.

Which end of this 1 1/4" union connector is female and which is male?

The tailpiece is male: its R 1 thread is cut on the outside and screws into a one-inch female outlet. The union nut is female: its G 1 1/4 thread is cut on the inside and screws onto a component with a G 1 1/4 male thread. Check both sizes on site before ordering.

How are the G 1 1/4 and R 1 sides of this union sealed?

Differently. The R 1 tailpiece has a tapered thread to EN 10226-1 that seals in the thread itself, with hemp and sealing paste, PTFE thread-sealing tape or thread-sealing cord, the only materials Viega permits. The G 1 1/4 union nut does not seal in its thread; there the joint seals flat on the aramid-fibre gasket.

Does this 1 1/4" union need to stay accessible after installation?

In gas installations, yes: Viega requires detachable connections such as this union to remain easily accessible, so the G 1 1/4 nut can be reached and undone later. Art. 320256 is listed on DVGW certificate DV-7401AO2957, and in every installation the installer must carry out a leak test before the system is put into service.
