Viega Brass Reducer 1/2" x 1/4", Art. 319076

A female thread is cut into the wall of an opening, a male thread around the outside of a part. This 1/2" x 1/4" reducer has one of each: the R 1/2 male end screws into a 1/2" female port, and a pipe or nipple with a 1/4" male thread goes into the Rp 1/4 female end.

The male end has a tapered R thread and the female end a parallel Rp thread, so the joint seals in the thread itself and needs no flat gasket. For the seal, Viega names three options: hemp with sealing paste, PTFE thread-sealing tape or thread-sealing cord, and the paste must be non-curing and DVGW-marked.

Yes. Viega approves its gunmetal and silicon-bronze threaded connectors for gas installations, and this 1/2" x 1/4" reducer (Art. 319076) is listed on DVGW certificate DV-7401AO2957. Only contract installers or firms specialising in gas systems may fit it, and the thread may be sealed only with non-curing sealants that carry a DVGW mark. A leakage test is mandatory before commissioning.
