Viega Profipress press elbow 90° 22 mm (model 2416, Art. 291518) turns a copper pipeline through a right angle. Both press ends take 22 mm copper pipe, so no pipe bending is needed for the turn.

The elbow is made of copper (Cu-DHP). Its press ends come factory-fitted with EPDM sealing elements, which according to Viega are the only ones approved for drinking-water installations. SC-Contur exposes an unpressed joint through a leak during the leak test.

The elbow is intended for 22 mm copper pipe to DIN EN 1057 in drinking-water, heating and compressed-air systems. Profipress is designed for 16 bar and for operating temperatures of up to 80 °C (drinking water) and 105 °C (heating water); the elbow also holds DVGW approval. The press tool is not supplied. Which pipes is this Profipress elbow compatible with?

The press ends take 22 mm copper pipe complying with DIN EN 1057 and DVGW worksheet GW 392. In drinking-water systems Viega allows copper pipes and connectors only where the water has a pH of 7.4 or higher, or a pH of 7.0–7.4 with a total organic carbon content (TOC) of no more than 1.5 mg/l.

Which press tool and jaw does the 22 mm elbow need?

Viega's instructions list a press machine that applies constant pressing force, together with a press jaw, or a press ring and its matching hinged adapter jaw, suited to the pipe diameter and profile. Viega recommends its own system tools. When pressing, place the jaw square to the fitting, centrally on the bead in which the sealing element sits.

Can this elbow be used for district heating or steam?

Not with the factory-fitted EPDM elements. Viega's instructions require FKM sealing elements where higher thermal resistance is needed, for example in district heat supply or low-pressure steam systems, while only EPDM is approved for drinking water. Before using the system outside the described areas of application, contact Viega.
