Description

Viega Smartpress press coupling 40×40 mm (model 6715, Art. 733339) joins two ends of 40 mm pipe straight, on one axis. Both sides are press connections, so the coupling extends a Smartpress main with no change of size and no threaded joint.

The coupling is stainless steel and is pressed without an O-ring. Viega press fittings have SC-Contur, so if either end is accidentally left unpressed, a leak reveals it in the leak test.

Both ends accept 40 mm Viega Smartpress, Pexfit Pro or Pexfit Fosta pipe. The system works at up to 70 °C for drinking water and 80 °C for heating, with a maximum operating pressure of 10 bar in both cases. The press tool, jaw and pipe cutter are not included. How should 40 mm pipe be cut for a Smartpress coupling?

Viega's instructions specify pipe cutters (model 2191) for sizes 32–63 mm and rule out hand or electric saws as well as angle grinders. The cut must be clean and straight. If you use Pexfit Fosta pipe, strip the outer coating and the aluminium layer over the length of the press sleeve with the chamfer tool model 2758.5.

Which press tool and jaw does the 40×40 mm coupling need?

Use a press machine with constant pressing force fitted with a Viega Smartpress jaw for plastic piping systems (model 2799.7 or 2784.7). The hand press tool 2782.5 covers only sizes 16–25 mm, so it is not suitable for this coupling. Before pressing, make sure the pipe end is visible in the inspection window.

Does the end of the 40 mm pipe need widening or calibrating?

No. According to Viega, Smartpress uses O-ring-free press technology in every size, so fitting the 40×40 mm coupling needs neither widening nor calibration of the pipe end. It is enough for the cut to be clean and straight and for the pipe to be fully inserted.
